Q: I am using Atenolol (which belongs to betablockers group of medicines) 50 mg tablet daily for seven years now.
I am using it for hypertension and to control the rhythm of my heart beats. Is it okay to use this kind of medicine for a prolong period of time?

A: It was designed for long term use. However, no drug comes without side effects. It was more than likely the determination fo your doctors that the benefits of you being on the drug greatly outweighs the downside of using the drug. Also, consider the fact that the risk of stroke and heart arrhythmia's are can be dangerous situations in the short term. I'm glad your following your treatment.

Q: AWFUL Cold but I take Atenolol. What do I do?
I have to take 50 mg of Atenolol a day meaning I can't take any of the normal decongestants. I feel awful and I've been sick for around 5 days. Anything I can do to stop coughing and lower the nasal congestion?

A: Try using Vic's Vapo-Rub. You rub it on your throat and chest. A humidifier will put moisture into the air and help with the nasal congestion. When you cough, are you coughing up phlegm? If you are, make sure you spit the phlegm out. This plus a nice cup of honey lemon tea should help. And get as much rest as you can.

Q: Been prescribed Atenolol for B.P. Diastolic reading is in the 50's now is this normal?
Wondering what is to low of a reading and do I stop taking it or call the Doctor? The systolic is reading anywhere from 134 down to 101.

A: It is normal to have a low diastolic reading on Beta-blockers. In contast to high blood pressure, there is no defined "low blood pressure." This is highly individualistic. I've worked with patients who begin to pass out when they hit 102/54, I've had others that are bright and chipper at 94/48. If you are feelings no symptoms of lightheadedness or the sensation that you are going to pass out, this is OK. My own blood pressure is often 98/56...and I am not on any meds.

Q: Whats The Highest Amount Of Atenolol You Can Be Prescribed?
what the highest amount of atenolol you can be prescribed to take in a day im asking cause im currently on 100mg for extra beats 50mg in the morning 50 at night and it somewhat works but not fully and was wondering if i ask my dr to maybe increase if he could or not so whats the highest you can go up to thats safe

A: I think, you are in right dose. The maximum dose of Atenalol is 100 mg which can be given as divided dose of 50mg ,morning and bedtime or a full dose once in a day. Your doctor may suggest other drugs or add some other drug if your problem is poorly controlled.

Q: Ms. Bates presents the pharmacy with a list of medications that she takes on a regular basis?
Atenolol 50 mg PO daily, HCTZ 25 mg PO daily, INH 300 mg PO daily What is the third drug on the list? Based on the dose of the third drug, which disease and phase is being treated?

A: INH is isoniazid. Other brand names of this drug include: Isotamine, Nydrazid, or Laniazid. It is a first-line therapy for active tuberculosis when used in combination with other drugs. Alone, it is used to prevent tuberculosis in patients who have been exposed to the disease.

Q: Is it safe to take percocet with atenolol?
i have been taking atenolol 50 mg daily for the past 4 years, i recently had some oral surgery and i didnt mention to my doctor that i take it, and he prescribed me vicodin and percocets. i already KNOW i can take vicodin, i have before, but will it be safe to take the 10mg percocets too? atenolol is a beta blocker, it slows down your heart for people with irregular heart beats, or an overactive heart, such as me. i was prescribed hydrocodon 7.5/750 and i took all of them as prescribed with no problems, so im assuming that OXY would be little to no difference than hydro...

A: It should be fine but you should check w/ your doctor or pharmacist. I am sure you can call your Pharmacy before closing today and ask a Pharmacist. Percocet is almost the same thing as Vicodin, just different straights of the medicines in it. So that is why I am not totally sure. Call the Pharmacist and they will let you know all the answers you need on medicines.

Q: will i faint if i take hypertension (atenolol) tablets though i don't have high blood pressure?
i am 16 years...... i want to faint some how. what will happen to me if i take 2 tablets of 50 mg atenolol?? i am not suffering from blood pressure........ give me some solutions......plzzzzzzz

A: Atenolal will not work for you. You have to find some other way to get fainted. I take regularly 50 mg of Atenolal (Tenormin) for the past sevral years for high BP and my wife by oversight mistook atenolal as her medicine and was taking it for more than 10 days. She is not a BP patient. Nothing happended. So for you also nothing will happen. -

Q: Why would the price of an inexpensive medicine Atenolol go up in price almost double in 25 days?
I purchased 30 pills on the 4th March for &5.50 and today the same 30 are $9.99

A: It could also be related to your insurance copay. Some insurance plans have copays vary depending on how much money you have spent so far this year. For example, Medicare Part D plans generally have an amount per year at which the patient pays the full price of the drug until they reach another amount of money spent on drugs for the year, when the copay goes back down. Ask the pharmacist...most pharmacists themselves have little to do with setting prices but know when and why increases happen and can tell you why your price went up. They won't be offended; Pharmacists and other pharmacy staff get questions about price all the time and realize price matters to patients.
