A: You can purchase it on-line, i'm pretty sure.

Q: Is it safe to take domperidone whilst on ciprofloxicin?
I usually take domperidone, but am currently taking a course of ciprofloxicin. Is it safe to take domperidone whilst on ciprofloxicin?

A: This is a good question for your pharmacist. Since doperamide speeds gastric dumping, need to check with pharmacist as to how it will affect the Cipro.

Q: I have a question regarding Domperidone for increasing milk supply.?
I have taken Domperidone for about 11 days and haven't seen any increase. Do you think that I will have any decrease in milk supply if/when I stop it since I didn't have any increase in milk supply from it? Thanks!

A: I tried taking Domperidone and it didn't work for me. Once I quit taking it my milk went away all together. I would assume it would be different for every woman. Call your doctor and just ask the nurse. Remember that you don't have to breastfeed to be a good mom. It took me a while to realize that but my daughter and I are very bonded and she is a happy 5 month old now. Good luck!

Q: Has anyone used domperidone to increase their milk supply?
A lactation consultant recommended domeperidone (although my Ob never heard of it) rather than reglan. I am leary of taking a non FDA approved drug as I don't know how my body will react or the implications for my baby. I feel like I tried everything else (fenugreek, more pumping, more frequent breastfeeding) and nothing seems to be working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A: I'm in the same boat. Supposedly it's safer than Reglan. Domperidone This is the option with fewer side effects; it has been approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics for use in breastfeeding mothers. Unfortunately, it is not available in regular pharmacies in the United States. It is used in Canada and other countries, but it is legal in America; a mother can obtain it by ordering (with a doctor's prescription) from compounding pharmacies in the United States. Outside of the U.S. (Mexico and New Zealand), no prescription is needed. The typical dosage that is recommended is 20mg, four times a day.

Q: Anyone used Domperidone and Rantidine medicine for their babies?
Hi, I've been prescribed these medicines for my 7 week old baby, just wanted to know if anyone else has used them and if so then did they work? I just started using them yesterday and my baby sems to be crying even more? Any advice please?

A: My daughter took Rantidine from 4-7 months old, also known as Zantac, because she had really bad relfux. It really should be helping a lot since this medicine is great, I have read up on it some, here is something I found. "What are the side effects of Zantac syrup (elixir) used in babies? Infants tolerate Zantac quite well and side effects are uncommon. Sometimes babies can become a bit sleepy after taking Zantac. If high doses are used, it can sometimes cause diarrhea."

Q: Is domperidone safe to use to increase milk supply?
I read from the internet that it is safe, but my doctor keeps telling me that it is not. Im desperate and want to try anything.

A: The best way to increase your milk supply is to nurse more, or if you're not doing that, pump in between nursings and freeze the milk for later use. The more your breasts think they need to produce based on demand (either the baby's demand or the pump's demand - doesn't matter), the more you produce. Also make a point of keeping yourself well nourished and hydrated - the nurses suggested to me that I eat something each time I pumped or nursed, and drink water as much as possible. I also recommend contacting a lactation consultant (your doctor may be able to refer you, or contact your local La Leche League for help) to answer questions and give advice on this matter. Good luck!

Q: How long did it take for you to have an increase in milk supply while taking Domperidone?
And what happened when you stopped taking the medication?

A: took mine 3 days, after i stopped taking it everything was ok as bub was then feeding well enough that my supply was consistant with his demand..

Q: Has anyone ever taken Domperidone for gastroparesis?? If so how did it work for you?
I'm considering taking Domperidone for my gastroparesis. Although it is not FDA approved.... I'm just wondering if anyone has taken it and if they were happy with the results. What kind of side-effects did you have? Was it expensive? Is it worth taking?

A: I think the main problem with domperiodone, in terms of perceived risks, is that there is little research into using it to enhance lactation. It's excreted in breast milk, and I guess it's not known how the drug affects breast feeding infants. For gastroparesis? Well, it is *supposed* to raise prolactin levels, which could pose a problem. But, it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier, like other prokinetics (i.e., metoclopramide). So, not sure how this is even possible. In terms of anecdotes? I am the QUEEN of side effects....or, so it would seem. Heh. I've tried both metoclopramide and domperidone. Metoclopramide gave me confirmed seizues and peripheral neuropathy. Nasty drug. Likely attributable to it's anti-dompaminegic qualities, the drug crossing the blood-brain barrier, and it having appreciable effects on prolactin--my prolactin was through the roof...at the time. Domperidone has been approved for gastroparesis in my country. I've been taking it for about 3-4 (?) months. The regular dose is 10 mg 3x/day. I find I only need one 10 mg tablet with dinner. It has done wonders. I also drink lots of water and supplement my fiber intake. No more constipation, nausea, cramps, and no side effects. It's been nice ;-). I can't tell you how much it is. In my country, prescriptions are covered and I'm thinking, prices would vary anyway, depending on where you live. Good luck, though! Hope it works for you, if you decide to take it. EDIT: Heeeeeeello mdGreg C :-) :-). Thanx!!! I guess what you teach me really doesn't go in one ear and out the other :-) :-). Errrr, uhhh, at least, most of it :-) :-).

Q: what kind of doctor can prescribe domperidone?
I need it to in crease breast milk.

A: Ok, I am currently taking domperidone. You don't need a prescription if you order it from New Zealand like I do. I can get 9 boxes for $12 American. However, the shipping is outrageous. It's like $90. So the drug is cheap, but the shipping will kill you. If you need more information, let me know. You can also get it from Canada, but will need a prescription. Your lactation consultant can probably get you one if she is a nurse practitioner. Otherwise, maybe your baby's pediatrician?

Q: Has anyone taken Domperidone for increasing milk supply?
How long? How effective etc etc :) How quickly was it effective?

A: I am on it, and have found it took effect after a couple of days. My baby is very busy and is now preferring a bottle. I have to pump and give formula sometimes because she hasn't gained enough weight. It is reaking havoc on my milk supply. It sure does help though.

Q: Can I come off domperidone without risking lowering my milk supply?
I started taking it after a canadian doctor put me on it... I dont want to be dependant on it. I was doing just fine with my milk supply before I took it, but doc said it would help my son latch on...so I decided to try it. But Im regreting it...I want to come off of this thing!!

A: Was it for nausia and vomiting or lactating? If you didnt have any problems before then it should be safe enough to come off it, but speak to your doctor about it first, dont base your decision on what someone said on here! xx

Q: Can someone PLEASE let me know an internet site to buy domperidone from new zealand? I need it cheap!?
Domperidone is great for increasing milk supply. I have heard you can get it very cheaply from new zealand, but I need an internet site. 20 dollars for 100 tablets is what I am looking for...or roundabout. help!! I have been searching forever.

A: hmmm ask under the New Zealand category - they will know more this is Australia

Q: If domperidone didnt work for me does that mean metocloperamide (reglan, moxalone) wont work either?
i took domperidone for 10 days once then felt intensely sicker, im not sure if it was the medicine or coincidence. Also, if im nauseous while on this medicine does ot mean im less likely to puke anyway or not? er but they both work on dopamine receptors and increase gastric motility?? i know all meds arent the same per sae...

A: domperidone is mainly used to stop the feeling of nausea and settles upset bellies, it works by affecting the gag reflex at the back of your throat so you shouldn't actually be sick on it! If one tablet dont work for you then go back and try different ones, there is bound be one out there for you! xxx
