A: The drug is used for seizures in pts with epilepsy. The dosing your on is a good one. The side effects are: Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, tremor, slurred speech, impaired concentration, weight gain, nausea, gastric upset, vomiting, blurred vision, rash, eczema. Q: gabapentin?
I am on 3,200 mg. a day for neuropathy. Is anyone on a higher dose than this?

A: I'm not on gabapentin, but according to epocrates (a physician's tool), the max dose of gabapentin (or Neurontin) is 3600 mg per day for neuropathic pain. For any increase in your dosage, you should really consult your doctor.

Q: What is the boiling point of Gabapentin (Neurontin) and does it decompose before then?
I've been doing a little research on Neurontin and I even looked up the MSDS for Gabapentin. No where can I find any listings on the Boiling point of gabapentin let alone its melting point... My original question to cause my research was to check when gabapentin melts, vaporizes, and if it decomposes anywhere along the way... Probably upon melting?

A: It is interesting that many compounds have not been completely characterized by all selling it. The reference gives the data sought, but always take such data with a grain of salt unless you find another source. This was found with a google search of the CAS# and MSDS.

Q: How long will Gabapentin stay in my system?
how long will Gabapentin stay in my system? Like how long will it take to come out of my body so it won't show up for a urine drug test?

A: Slightly Updated: Gabapentin has a half life of 5 to 7 hours. So, for example, if you took 100 mg of gabapentin Monday at 4 PM, 50 mg would still be in your system at approx. 9 to 14 PM. However, any drug will continue to peter out of your body long after the half life ends. The formula is that you have to multiply the half life by 7 to get the drug COMPLETELY out of your system. I learned this by speaking with several pharmacists. Thus, it would take approx. 35 to 55 hours to get gabapentin completely out of your body. I don't know how many hours it will take to have gabapentin no longer show up in a urine sample. This is just a guess, but I would say it would take 10 to 15 hours before gabapentin would no longer show up in a urine test. Remember, this is just my guess.

Q: Does anyone know how long it takes for gabapentin to start to work for sleep disorders?
I've been taking ambien for years and now it's not working so my doctor has switched me to gabapentin. I've taken it for 3 nights and I still am not sleeping, but I'm really foggy in the morning. If anyone can tell me how long it took for them, that would be sweet.

A: Hmm, never heard gabapentin being used for sleeping. If it does not work after a few nights call your doctors office and see about getting it changed or making a new office visit.

Q: Is it reasonable to assume that gabapentin can cause significant drug interactions or side effects?
Gabapentin is not significantly metabolised and is mainly excreted in the urine, is known for having a relatively low side effect profile, but why would it cause a reaction in a patient being treated for neuropathic pain? No quotes from wikipedia please, it is not a reliable source

A: i have been taking this for years for head pain and never had any affects

Q: Whats the difference between Gabapentin and Gaba powder supplement?
Gabapentin/Neurontin compared to Gamma Aminobutyric Acid powder bought without prescription?

A: GABA is a non-essential amino acid/neurotransmitter found in the human brain and eyes. It regulates brain and nerve cell activity by stopping neurons from firing, and therefore, preventing overstimulation. GABA, taken as a supplement, is supposed to exert a calming, relaxing, and anti-anxiety effect on the body. However, taken orally, it is completely ineffective because it doesn't reach the brain, and therefore, has absolutely none of the effect it claims to have. Neurontin (gabapentin) is structurally related to GABA, but the medication has no effect on GABA in the brain (doesn't inhibit its reuptake, or increase levels) and it is not converted into GABA either. Neurontin is an anticonvulsant, and also has analgesic properties.

Q: is taking 900 mg of the drug Gabapentin too much. Especially if you take it all at one time?
I take the gabapentin for nerve pain and to sleep at night. I never take it during the day.

A: Gabapentin is used to help control certain types of seizures in patients who have epilepsy. Gabapentin is also used to relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN; the burning, stabbing pain or aches that may last for months or years after an attack of shingles). Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. Gabapentin treats seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Gabapentin relieves the pain of PHN by changing the way the body senses pain. Symptoms of overdose may include: * double vision * slurred speech * drowsiness * diarrhea

Q: Does Gabapentin help with nerve pain created by have had open heart surgery when they crack your chest open?
I had open heart surgery and have a problem with numbness and sharp burning pain across my chest. It has been diagnosed as nerve pain from the nerves across my chest that were cut opening my chest to perform the bypass. I was put on Gabapentin for it and have been told that if it still exists after 1 year then it will be permanent.

A: im surprised they put u on gabapentin. it works on some nerves, however, gabapentin is used for epilepsy to manage seizures. another generic name for gabapentn is neurontin. ive had 7 by-passes, but they gave me hydrocodone. i also have a numness in my chest, and it is permanent. but its not life threating, just somethink we will have to live with. i had mine 7 yrs. ago. hope this helps. god bless

Q: How doeses Gabapentin work and is it a safe drug?
It's anti-spasmodic and calms the nervous system. But is it addictive?

A: Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. Gabapentin treats seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Gabapentin relieves pain by changing the way the body senses pain. I would think it poses a moderate risk of addiction since it does alter the way the body senses pain.

Q: Will amitriptyline and /or gabapentin show up as poss for opiates in drug test?
Will amitriptyline and/or gabapentin show up pos for opiates in urine?

A: No they should not. Neither gabapentin or amitriptyline are opiates. If there would be some false positive then you would need to tell them your medications for them to see if it could result in a false positive. But I would not worry about it.
