Q: Can you get rid of COPD?
I went to the ER 2 days ago, he told me I was in the very early stages of COPD, I am only 25 years old, he told me I was way to young to have this. He told me if I take my medicine he perscribes me and clear it up and quit smoking then I have a great chance of getting over it. I don't really understand much about COPD I am just learning that I have it. Can someone please give me any and all the information they personally know and have experience with COPD? I haven't picked up a cigarette since he told me this, I went the next day and bought nicorette patches, my husband has also stopped smoking for me. Now I haven't filled my medicines yet because I don't have insurance or the money, me and my man are only common law married so I can't get put on his insurance, with christmas coming up and all the bills for this month I really can't afford my meds right now. He perscribed me Prednisone, an inhaler, and Bactrim. Also, will I need to follow up with a regular doctor now or what do I do? Just to update you all, thanks to your information, I did go get my medication filled about 20 minutes ago! Thank You so much! Thank you everyone for giving me advice. Just to let you know if you read this 5 days from now, I still need answers! Thank You! Also to let yall know, my doctor got my Xrays of my lungs and he said they looked good! So what does this mean, could this be such an early detection that it might not be an ongoing thing for me?

A: I was just diagnosed two months ago and do smoke. The Dr. told me if I quit smoking now that I could delay further problems. No you can't just get rid of it but you can slow the process down. I have tried the patches, the pills and the antidepressants and still smoke. I am trying hard. I use an inhaler twice a day and have an emergency one. I also have sleep apnea which does not help the situation because I sleep with my open open and there goes my O2 levels down down down. So I will be starting on CPAP next week and that too will help improve my lungs! Good luck (Yes, you need to follow up with your Dr.Trust me I am an RN)
