Q: I have this sinus infection and my doc. said to use this Otrivin Saline but I don't know how to? HELP~?
It's for my nose. It says "With head slitly forward, spray 1 or 2 times dailyinto each nostril, 1-3 times dailey." But only air comes out. I am doing it right but is air supposed to come out? There is liquid in it but it won't "spray" out, only if you hold it upside down.
Help :S!
A: You have to squeeze some really hard to get the saline to come out. It may be low or not a very good brand. Saline is a simple salt water solution that is designed to clean out the nasal passageways and sinus cavities. You can find many brands at the drug store. One called Simply Saline is a pressurized can so when you activate is sprays out a metered dose of saline under its own power. You may want to try that one.
The doc is right about the position of the head. You don't wan to lean back. I usually use my saline in the shower because sometimes it makes me gag and cough up phlegm.
This is a good treatment, I would like to add washing your hands often and brushing your teeth often can help prevent upper respiratory infections.
Good luck.
Q: I have dry nose past three months.Cleaning hurts.I apply coconut oil sometimes but of no use.Otrivin_s suggest
Otrivin _S suggested but didn't work? Reason? and any remedy?
A: OTC Walgreen's Drugstore - "ocean" is a saline liquid for nostrils. Effective and inexpensive.
Dry nasal passages common in winter with heated rooms. Try humidifier.
Q: Is it dangerous to use Vicks Vaporub everyday?
I used to be addicted to using Otrivin nose sprays. Now in order to sleep with a clear nose I need to use Vicks right under my nose. I do it every night. Not sure if there are bad long term effects.
A: Uh no it's not a bad to use vicks everyday, nose spray is different since there are certain chemicals in there that can get you addicted to things...Vicks is put on your body...you do not snort it.
Q: using otrivin while pregnant?
I woke up with a sinus cold thursday morning, it's saturday afternoon, and my nose has been very stuffy and then running like crazy. I've took tylenol a couple times just when my head feels so congested like its going to explode and i asked the pharmacist what i could take and she said otrivin. so i've been using that, probably only 3 times now, I just do one spray in both nostrils and only when i feel i need it. i'm 20 weeks pregnant and been reading up on it to make sure it is safe for my baby and everyone seems to say its safe. has anyone else used it while pregnant? I just don't want to drive 30 mins to check with my doctor that it is ok. I plan on throwing it out in a couple days since the pharamcist said to use it for 4 days.
A: for any info on medication while pregnant, i go to www.safefetus.com. you just look up the medicine and it will give you the fda risk category for it. otrivin is at a level c.
* Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus.
* No adequate and well controlled studies done on pregnant women.
* Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
Q: Fatal addiction-I cannot quit injecting Otrivin?
help me
A: Obviously, you need to try and take steps that will allow you to stop taking Otrivin.
Some side effects of overdosing on Otrivin include extreme tiredness, sweating, dizziness, and a slow heartbeat, so if you begin to experience any of these you need to seek medical attention immediately.
If not, there's a few things you can do. First, I'd recommend going to see a psychologist or even your family doctor and informing them that you have an addiction to Otrivin, and you really want to get off of it. They'll be able to help put you in the best possible position to get off Otrivin in the right way and in the best possible setting.
Otrivin can be very harmful if used for more than three to five days. I'm assuming that if you think it's become a fatal addiction that you've been taking it for longer than that. It's important that you seek help from a professional as soon as you can.
Good luck and I wish you the best.
Q: preventing disease is not treatment for the disease! i need permenent solution for sneezing and nasal block?
am 23 yr old boy,for the past 8 years am having nasal block and continious sneezing,am taking OTRIVIN(nasal drops)to get temp relif, but i want to be a normal person like othersand i dont need any preventing measures for this.so plz tell me some permenent solution (without side effects) to cure this.......THANKS IN ADVANCE
A: To cure a disease you have first know what you're suffering from.
One possibility is allergies. You should see an allergist. If you know what you're allergic to, you can avoid them (or take allergy shots).
Another may be restricted openings in your nasal/sinus passages, see your Ear/Nose/Throat specialist. This may require minor surgery to correct.
Q: My nose is always stuffy and itchy.?
I know I have allergies so I take an antihistamine, but even with those my nose is never completely clear unless I take a spray nebulizer (like otrivin). Even with that my nose is clear for no more than an hour and I'm back at square one.
Any suggestions that can help me that I can do with home products? I was sneezing so badly about half an hour ago that I couldn't even keep my eyes open.
Thanks in advanced.
A: first off the neti pot will help that stuffy nose for only a few minutes. Nasal sprays help relieve the congestion although they don't last very long but a few hours is better than none.
try steam also, boil a pot of water drape a towel over your head and and breathe in the steam for 15 four times a day. If all else fails see an allergist.

A: check the warning labels on the medicine. sometimes these medicines have weird side effects and mess up fertilization. every medicine has a long list of possible side effects, check them and see if applies.

It could be fatal,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_nose
"the most well-known Epistaxis-related death was that of Attila the Hun. He drank a colossal amount of alcohol on his wedding night after his parley with Pope Leo I, suffered a nosebleed in his sleep and was suffocated by the blood."

Q: Prolonged nose blocks
I have been suffering from nose block for almost a month now. Both the nostrils get almost completely blocked and I have to use Otrivin nasal drops. I have to use these drops almost twice or thrice a day. Five years back I had faced a similar situation and I had undergone a septoplasty surgery for a deviated nasal septum. That time the doctor had assured me that this condition would not repeat itself after the surgery. What do I do now. Should I try out some alternative medicine. If I go to an allopathic doctor, I am pretty sure he would ask me to go for surgery again.
A: Try a Netti Pot. You can buy them at a drug store. First you put warm water and salt in what looks like a tea pot. then you tilt your head and stick the spout in your nose. Eventually it will go all around your sinuses and come out the other nostril of your nose. If the blockage is big, it will take a couple of days to fully clear it out. But i would first contact your doctor to make sure it's safe to use it, since you've had surgery on your nose.
Q: Any doctors here?. I am screaming for help!!!. It's very Urgent?
I have acute Deaviated Nasal Septum with Polyp since my child hood. It got worse after I met with an accident about 6 years ago.
Since then not even a night I can sleep without using Otrivin Nasal drops as I will have almost 100% blockage of both my nostrils.
Doctors advised me to go for a septoplastry. however I am scared of all intrusive methods.
Can anybody help me with a home remedy for the time being so that I can avoid Otrivin Nasal Drops
A: have you tried those breath right nasal strips?
