Q: Is there a generic available for Allegra D 12 hour?
My employer just switched insurance providers and our prescription program is tiered, so that generics cost you practically nothing, but name-brand drugs cost you either $35 or $50. I have a lot of allergies and one of my allergy meds is Allegra D. I just switched my script to the 12-hour, because I saw that the FDA had approved a generic (fexofenadine HCL/pseudoephedrine HCL extended release). But when I went to pick up my script yesterday, I had to pay the full $50 because according to the pharmacist, there is no generic available. So what's the deal? I can't afford $50 a month for one prescription!

A: just b/c the fda has approved a drug, doesnt mean they can make it yet. a lot of times drug companies buy out the patent for a certain drug which means only they can produce that certaini name brand drug for a certain amount of years. and then once the patent runs out, the drug companies can start making a generic product. and i've even come in to things where the doctor might tell a patient theres a new generic available for a name brand drug, but the drug might not make it to the pharmacy for another 6 months to a year. generic drugs have to go through a lot of testing and legal junk before they can be sent to stores and pharmacies. if you cant afford the money for the brand name allegra d 12, just get the regular plain allegra generic "fexofenadine" then pick up a pack of OTC Sudafed, or the generic store brand "pseudoephedrine" for a couple of bucks at the pharmacy and take them together, sure its two pills but it will be cheaper that way especailly if your insurance charges a cheap generic copay like 5-10 dollars. and the generic store brand sudafed is like 4 or 5 dollars most of the time. talk to your doctor and pharmacist about making this change to save you some money before the generic allegra d 12 hour hits the shelves, probably sometime late this year or early nexty year. good luck to ya. :)

Q: How good, bad is Allegra? And it says no refills on prescription?!!? Please help!?
I have horrible allergies and am waiting for blood test results. Meanwhile, benodryl, loratadine, zyrtec do not work! These are just name brands, nothing else works. Organic doesn't help either. I am currently on Allegra, I believe it is Allegra-D. The doctor said "lets see how it works, if it doesn't then come back." The perscription bottle says no refills! Theres only 14 in the bottle.. One a day, for all summer.. Should I call and request more? Ive taken it for the past three days when I first wake up. The Allergies seem to have subsided. However, right now they are turning my eyes pink and purple! I took it this morning after having a bagel though. It does say take on an empty stomach. So should I keep trying it or get something different after a week or so? Thanks so much!

A: Allegra-D works really well for me but I take it in the morning and sometimes it doesn't last through the night so my doctor said I can take Zyrtec with it at night. But I would just call your doctor and say its working and that you'd like a refill.

Q: Remedies for headaches - at the office?
I get sinus/allergy-related headaches all the time. They are usually due to sinus pressure, but triggers include any unusual smell, such as recently laid tar, perfumes and colognes, even my hand sanitizer. Also, breathing in cold air gives me an instant head ache. As I describe it, the air is going up and feels like its freezing my brain. I get these head aches at least once a week and they are usually throbbing, light sensitive, temperature sensitive, and movement senisitive often accompanied with nausea. I have tried taking all forms of prescription medications, such as Allegra-D, Zyrtec-D, and even behind-the-counter Claritin-D for my allergies, but to no avail. I have been taking many different types of headache aspirins, but these work only about half the time. Moreover, I am afraid if I take aspirin too often and too regularly, it could be detrimental to my health. Does anyone know of ways to ease headaches that is natural and can be used at the office? Not herbal, per se, but techniques that I can use to at least make the headache stop throbbing? I've tried massaging my temples and massaging the pressure point between my thumb and index finger, but that doesn't really help.

A: I also get the same things, including eye strain. I usually go outside for some things, others you cant really help because it's in the ventilation. Any time I get a headache, I don't use meds. I guzzle a bottle of water or some gatorade (G2 - less calories). I also have this one thing called a migrastick. It's peppermint & eucalyptus oil in a mini roll on tube. I put it on my temples, back of my neck & between my eyes. It seems to help out a ton. It cools the pressure points & also the smell is awesome, seems to block out the allergy-inducing smells. Good luck! I feel your pain!

Q: Problem with contact lense fitting?
For the past 4 months, my optometrist has been doing his best to fit my eyes with a new contact lense prescription. However, each new prescription has failed, and we're out of solutions! We've tried various brands, even Acuvue Oasys, which was very uncomfortable (it was very dry, and I had trouble removing the contacts from my eyes). My eye doctor thought the prescription was too strong, and changed it to a weaker prescription, which is almost exactly the same prescription I had been wearing for two years prior to this, but my nearsight is terrible now! He suggested reading glasses, but they don't help either. Any suggestions? In the meantime, he has fitted me with glasses. The lenses may be too strong. Would this have an affect on how my eyes like the contact prescription? Eye history: - Astigmatism. - Contact wearer for 10 years - I'm in my early twenties and am very healthy. - I recently started taking Allegra D for newly emerging allergies (apparently my sinuses are against me as well as my eyes) I realize contacts are merely a convenience, but they make my job much easier, and I would greatly appreciate an understanding as to why I can suddenly no longer wear contacts. I've tried the advanced astigmatism lenses. I had an appointment today, and he told me there's nothing he can do, but recommended that I try changing my solution. I'll try it, but I don't think that's the real problem.

A: have you tried acuvue advance astigmatic contact lenses?

Q: Help!! I'm Allergic To My Dog!!?
I brought home a German Shepherd mix a week ago from the animal shelter, I had no problems at all for the first week, but now its getting pretty bad. Do prescription allergy medicines like Clarinex and Allegra help, or do I have to give my dog back to the shelter? I never knew that I was allergic to dogs, I used to stay at my aunts house for months, and her big dog sometimes used to sleep in the bed with me and I'd never have any problems.

A: Shepherds are one of the worst dogs for allergies, but they are such good dogs. It's important to keep your dog well groomed. If somebody else could brush him outside once a day, that will help, and bath him regularly (but not too often so you don't dry out his skin). If there isn't someone else to brush him, do it upwind from him before you take your shower. Keep the house swept, mopped, and vaccumed (furniture too), and change your bedding often. My son has severe allergies and we have found the best combination for him is Zyrtec (now over the counter and available in a cheaper store brand at WalMart) and prescription Flonase. Try the over the counter stuff first before you go to the doctor.
