Q: Tips fpr quitting smoking?
I have been trying to quit this super addictive habit for awhile now, I have been smoking for 9 years and am up to almost a pack a day. I have tried cold turkey, nicotrol inhaler, nicorette gum, I had a perscription for CHANTIX but it is very expensive and I dont have the money, I am desperate to stop but I cant get over my mental addiction to it. Does anyone have any help for me?
A: You have to really want to stop.
I found quitting cold turkey worked but i tried a few times first before i realised a few things.
1. if you smoke for social reasons you need to avoid the places where you smoke socially, i.e a certain place at lunch break etc.
2. If you know or are close to people that smoke you need to advoid them when they are smoking, get involved in a task or something to take your mind off it while they are smoking. also set aside time to be around these people when they are not smoking so you can still enjoy there company and not use smoking (even subconsiously) as a bonding experience.
3.Set aside the money you would normally use on smoking so you can see how much you are saving.
4. if you normally smoke right after eating or if you smoke when you are drinking, or smoke after sex or whatever, be aware of these patterns and know that you will probably want to smoke in these situation, prepare yourself mentaly before hand to feel these cravings so that when they happen you are aware it is just the routine and addiction working on you, if you can resist -10mins normally the cravings will go.
5. make a verbal command request, for example its a phrase you will say to yourself when you get the craving to push that craving away and repeat it everytime you get the craving, for example tell yourself "I don't need it, I don't want it" normally the shorter the verbal command request the easier it is to do.
6. Read Unleashing the Warrior Within: Using the 7 Principles of Combat to Achieve ... By Richard J. Machowicz
It has great advice for achieving any goals you want to in life and has worked amazingly well for me
I hope this helps and good luck

A: You need to join a support group, even if it's online.
And then change everything that reminds you of smoking. Always have a cigarette with coffee? Switch to tea. Always have one after a meal? Have a few baby carrots instead or immediately go on a walk. Remove the smoking chairs you have in your garage or on your back porch. Throw away all your ash trays and lighters. Don't hang around other smokers, take a magazine to read on your work breaks, and don't go where there are people smoking.
Q: magazine article for english.. what should i do next?
Smoking today is a big issue. More and more young people are being attracted to it each day.
Each year around five million people die due to smoking and related diseases. Young people today are beginning to start smoking because believe they it is cool or due to peer pressure or temptation. Later on in life they will develop a nasty cough which is known as a smokers cough. In the lungs there will be a thick fluid surrounding them to protect them from the smoke that is inhaled.
Diseases that can effect you if you smoke are heart disease; lung cancer or throat and mouth cancer. These diseases will probably cost you your life. The cost of cigarettes varies from £2.29 to £5.67.
Cigarettes contain a lot of harmful products such as: tar, nicotine and tobacco. These are the main three which are very harmful to the lungs. A pregnant woman which smokes is at risk of having a miscarriage or she may give birth to a child with defects.
Smoking is a disgusting habit and a complete waste of money and time. If you’re a smoker and are planning to stop you can get help from a variety of help lines or websites. Your doctor can also help you by supplying you with patches or nicorette inhalers.

Q: quit smoking?
i am trying to quit smoking,i am/was a heavy smoker, since having a nervous breakdown i did'nt smoke for nearly 6 days(not one)on the sixth day i broke(much to my dissapointment)i have halved my smoking quantity but really want to stop altogether due to the bad health facts of smoking,i have tried the nicorette inhalers in the past, did'nt do much good as i only lasted a day with that, any genuine answers are greatly appreciated, thanks.
A: I too was a very heavy smoker - also a drinker.it took me almost 2 decades after I quit drinking to quit smoking, and I tried several times.I used the patch successfully.I also carried straws cut into cig-sized pieces to fiddle with,it was crucial that I have one in my hands or mouth.
as for my head- where most of the drama was happening-
I took a page from the AA program, and told myself that I could NEVER have JUST ONE cigarrette again,if I had ONE I would have to smoke forever. For me that was the truth...and the key. my twisted mind would tell me that I could just "have one,and then stop"and I had to remember that was my addiction talking.my answer had to be no.always.the one time I listened to that voice, I fell off the wagon and smoked more heavily than ever for three more years.
I finally quit for good in april of 2004.I wont BS you.I still would LOVE to have a smoke.but if I can find something else to do,I don't have to go though that hell again.so I find something else to do...I hope you make it.
Q: Chantix Quitting Smoking & other Ways to quit.?
Ok Here's the deal: I can't take Nicorette losenges spray inhaler or patches. I simply don't smoke that much. I was on Chantix smoking dropped from 1/2 pack a day to 1 cigarette a day. I had to quit taking the Chantix because i was having this feeling of drunkedness. I don't drink. I am afraid to try Zyban or Wellbutrin because of the fact that Chantix supposedly is least likely to show side effects. Ok so today is my first day off the Chantix & that uncontrollable urge for a cigarette is back I wanted one with my coffee and the urge is still there now. I haven't given in & I won't, but the urge is overwhelming. I found a tea awhile back that I could drink that will help. Anybody got some other suggestions? Herbal or cold turkey tips I don't care it's all welcome. Thanks
The feeling of drunkedness was this: Dizziness staggering "Hangover" Headache. I literally could not walk without grabbing ahold of everything in sight & also I kept falling out of my chair. :(
A: the key to quitting an addiction (prescription or non) is replacing the nutrients washed out by the drug. In the case of nicotine it works much like some antidepressants with an effect of increased dopamine in the brain. When the dopamine falls...you need to smoke again. Same with antidepressants. Start yourself on Omega 3 fatty acids (at least 1000 mg per day- more if you feel you need it -this will control mood and help rebuild the brain). Also get yourself a good green supplement- flash dried minimally processed product containing wheat grass, carrot powder or barley grass. I would personaly recommend Power Barley formula from www.globaldnasolutions.com (that is the one i use personaly). Begin it slowly and work up to 1 tsp 3x a day. This will take a way all side effects and withdrawl effects- not only from smoking cessation but from any prescription drug. Which means that as you quit you will rebuild and get rid of the addiction ...no weight gain or crankyness ususally associated with quiting smoking.
